Shop at Stora Saluhallen – right in the city center, lies Gothenburg’s largest market hall which was constructed in 1889. Inside there are over 40 stalls and restaurants offering national products for you to sample e.g. elk meat, reindeer and salmon. This is also the place to buy traditional souvenirs and gifts for your loved ones back home.
Go for coffee in Haga -The charming Haga quarter is the city’s most historic district, full of wooden houses, cobbled streets, and a wonderful selection of cafes and small shops. Enjoy a ‘Fika’, the traditional coffee break with friends. Apparently, you should observe this practice at least two times a day in the eyes of the Swedish. Sound perfect to us!
Shop till you drop in Magasinsgatan – If you love to shop then Gothenburg is the place for you. From boutiques to malls, there is something for everyone. Visit the Magasinsgatan area for independent shops and local fashion from Swedish fashion brands like Acne, Velour and Emma och Malena. There’s even a shopping walking tour you can go on.
Visit the Feskekörka - (‘fish church’ in Swedish) built in 1874. The fish market is located in a church-like structure right by the canal. Offering shrimps, oysters, mussels, crawfish and even lobster – the choice is yours! Seafood is a real specialty here, but Gothenburg also offers food trucks, Swedish cuisine and waterfront dining.
Gothenburg’s Konstmuseum or Museum of Art - Here you will find compositions of masters like Rembrandt, Picasso and van Gogh with contemporary artists like Charlotte Gyllenhammar, Lina Selander and Cajsa von Zeipel.
Visit Scandinavia's largest (and oldest) amusement park, Liseberg - Enjoy one of the 42 exciting rides and attractions. Go on the Liseberg Wheel for spectacular views on the surrounding area, or try Balder, one of the biggest wooden rollercoasters in the world, measuring 36 meters at the highest point and with 70 degrees on the steepest fall!
Relax in Trädgardsföreningen Park – after you’ve shopped and enjoyed your fika, why not pop by Trädgardsföreningen Park, where you can enjoy a relaxing stroll (to work off the food you've enjoyed!) Or visit the palm house, a beautiful 19th century rosarium, modelled on the Crystal Palace in London, it has been a popular destination since 1878. In an area measuring almost 1,000 square metres you can enjoy tropical warmth and exotic plants, including palm trees.
Party in Avenyn – Avenyn is both trendy and timeless. Here you will find clubs that have been there forever. This is the main strip of bars, restaurant’s and clubs attracting a mix of clientele. If you prefer a laid-back vibe you should try Vasagatan, Magasinsgatan, Linnégatan or Andra Långgatan.
