On behalf of the ICS Education Committee, an expert panel attended the 12th Asian Congress of Urology on Kish Island, in December 2014. Kish is a small island in the Persian gulf, a free zone part of Iran, emerging as a tourist destination. The Urological Association of Asia’s meeting was the first medical conference hosted on the island, and so it was given great prominence and welcome by local dignitaries. The running was supported by volunteers, mainly student engineers, which helped the faculty considerably. The organisers showed kind hospitality, and provided an excellent environment which enabled the scientific debate to flourish.
The ICS course was delivered jointly with the Iranian Continence Society. State-of-the-art lectures covered:
- management of stress urinary incontinence
- tissue engineering
- male LUTS and incontinence
- urodynamics
- vesico-vaginal fistula
- mesh surgery
Debates covered:
- complications of surgery
- botulinum-A versus neuromodulation
- management of symptomatic prolapse
The day concluded with a case discussion panel on neuro-urology. The ICS was represented by Chris Chapple, Ayaj Singla, Sherif Mourad, Peggy Chu, Bruno Deval and Marcus Drake, with Professor Sakineh Hajebrahimi, Dr Amini and Professor Sharifi leading for the Iranian Continence Society. The ICS Faculty are truly appreciative of the welcome given by the Asian Congress of Urology, the Iranian Continence Society and all involved in a fine and memorable meeting on Kish Island.
