Dr Sandra Elmer graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery, Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of Melbourne in 2005 and is a Consultant Urologist in Melbourne. She has completed a 12-month fellowship at the Austin Hospital specialising in open and laparoscopic surgery, and a 12-month Functional Urology Fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, specializing in neurological bladder dysfunction and urinary incontinence. She has pursued overseas training with the world’s top Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgeons at the New York University Medical Centre.
Sandra practices in general urology with specialist interests in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, neuro-urology, laparoscopic surgery (oncology, reconstruction), kidney stone disease, and is also passionate about assisting men regain function after treatment for prostate cancer. She treats patients at Epworth HealthCare (Freemasons, Richmond and Hawthorn campuses), Royal Melbourne Hospital, Austin Health and the Australian Prostate Cancer Centre.
Sandra also has a keen interest in clinical research and spent 2002/2003 in Kenya, working at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust investigating Malaria in pregnancy. In 2009 was awarded a Master of Surgery for investigating the relationship between circumcision and HIV. She has presented urological research internationally and has been the recipient of multiple prizes from the Urology Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She is a valued member of the following organisations: Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, International Continence Society and the International Urogynaecology Association.
