Aims and Objectives
|
This workshop will examine the association between sexual trauma and the development of LUTS and other pelvic floor disorders. It will review current evidence and proposed pathophysiological mechanisms, including central and peripheral neurobiological changes, pelvic floor dysfunction, and psychological factors. The session will address trauma-informed approaches to clinical assessment and outline multidisciplinary management strategies. Perspectives from neurology, urology, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and psychology will be integrated to highlight models of care. The workshop aims to enhance clinicians’ understanding, diagnostic confidence, and ability to deliver effective, patient-centred management in this complex population.
Learning Objectives - Describe the evidence linking childhood sexual trauma and abuse to LUTS and other pelvic floor disorders
- Discuss the clinical assessment of patients presenting with LUTS and pelvic symptoms with a background history of childhood or sexual trauma
- Integrate multidisciplinary management strategies to deliver patient-centred care for this complex population
