Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) in adolescents is underrecognized due to its sensitive nature, leading to challenges in assessment and adherence. This interactive workshop explores the barriers encountered when managing this vulnerable population.
Participants will be able to identify signs and symptoms of PFD, and conduct age-appropriate clinical assessments using validated screening tools, and treatment approaches that prioritize psychological comfort and long-term outcomes.
A hands-on component allows participants to explore external diagnostic and therapeutic devices that enhance patient motivation and adherence. By integrating clinical knowledge with practical skills, attendees will gain confidence in approaching PFD in adolescents.
Learning Objectives - Recognize the presenting signs and symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) in adolescent patients, including bowel, bladder, and pelvic pain manifestations
- Conduct an age-appropriate clinical assessment using validated screening tools specific to adolescent PFD.Demonstrate sensitivity to the psychosocial factors unique to adolescent patients when gathering clinical history.
- Gain hands-on experience with two external devices for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes, adequate for the adolescent population.
